What is a drop-down list in FileMaker?
For FileMaker databases, a drop-down list is a field formatting tool that can be used to open a pop-up menu with value specifications when the user selects the field. The value specifications can be taken from any value list. In contrast to the pop-up menu, a pop-up list allows both to select values from a pop-up menu and to manually enter values into the field.<!–more Read more >>>->
To add a drop-down list to a field, switch to Layout mode in FileMaker and click the desired field. In the Inspector (View > Inspector) you can now define all display preferences for the selected field in the area [Field] of the tab [Data]:
Display data from: (field to be displayed)
Control style (Form in which the field should be displayed. By default, a field is displayed as an edit field. Possible other options: drop-down list, drop-down menu, checkboxes, radio buttons, drop-down calendar)
With arrow to show or hide list (displays an arrow at the right edge of the field to show or hide the drop-down menu For pop-up calendars: “With icon to show or hide calendar”)
Allow editing of the value list (for static value lists, you can specify whether the user can edit the value list or not. If so, a new item [Edit…] appears in the pop-up menu, which can be used to open a dialog for editing the value list)
Automatically populate via value list (automatically suggests matching entries from the value list as you type if the string of the first letters you type matches a value in the value list)
