What is a database?

A database (database system, DBS) is classically understood as a software program with which large amounts of data can be stored and managed efficiently, unambiguously and without contradiction. What is meant by digitization?

Digitization is generally used as a generic term for the conversion from analog (physical) to digital management of data of all kinds. Managing data with pen and paper offers the advantage of being able to easily store all stored data according to the desired scheme (calendar, address book or notepad). But the list of disadvantages is unfortunately long: The data is only available once where it was written down and cannot be used for other actions such as cover letters, e-mail or even for business and receipts at the push of a button. The susceptibility to errors is high because data must be re-entered for further processing. Long-term archiving of paper documents is also complex and often requires a lot of space. (more…)

What is a drop-down list in FileMaker?

FileMaker Inspector: Data > Field For FileMaker databases, a drop-down list is a field formatting tool that can be used to open a pop-up menu with value specifications when the user selects the field. The value specifications can be taken from any value list. In contrast to the pop-up menu, a pop-up list allows both to select values from a pop-up menu and to manually enter values into the field.<!–more Read more >>>->

To add a drop-down list to a field, switch to Layout mode in FileMaker and click the desired field. In the Inspector (View > Inspector) you can now define all display preferences for the selected field in the area [Field] of the tab [Data]:

Display data from: (field to be displayed)

Control style (Form in which the field should be displayed. By default, a field is displayed as an edit field. Possible other options: drop-down list, drop-down menu, checkboxes, radio buttons, drop-down calendar)

Drop-down list in FileMakerWith arrow to show or hide list (displays an arrow at the right edge of the field to show or hide the drop-down menu For pop-up calendars: “With icon to show or hide calendar”)

Allow editing of the value list (for static value lists, you can specify whether the user can edit the value list or not. If so, a new item [Edit…] appears in the pop-up menu, which can be used to open a dialog for editing the value list)

Automatically populate via value list (automatically suggests matching entries from the value list as you type if the string of the first letters you type matches a value in the value list)

In the business software gFM-Business, a print layout is a layout intended for the print output of any data. In gFM-Business all print layouts are located in the separate FileMaker file [gFM_Drucklayouts.fmp12]. When updating the software, print layouts can therefore in most cases simply be taken over from the previous version. Read more >>>
