What is FileMaker Go?
FileMaker Go is an app that opens FileMaker databases in iOS on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and can be downloaded for free from the App Store. FileMaker Go can open files locally or over the network hosted on the network with FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Server. FileMaker Go does not support FileMaker plug-ins because they are not supported in the mobile version. Database development is reserved for the desktop versions of FileMaker Pro for Mac and Windows and is not possible with FileMaker Go.
The first version of FileMaker Go appeared in conjunction with FileMaker Pro 11 and accordingly still opens the older .fp7 files. Databases of this type can be created with FileMaker Pro 7, 8, 8.5, 9, 10 and 11.
The app cannot open files in the more recent .fmp12 format. FileMaker Go 11 has been discontinued and is no longer available on the iTunes App Store as of September 2013.
Since FileMaker Go 12, the app only opens files in the current .fmp12 format. FileMaker Go 12 requires at least iOS 5.1. For the first time, the app supports printing records using the AirPrint feature. FileMaker Go 12 does not support all script steps, such as execute Find/Replace, Insert From Index, Insert Picture, Insert QuickTime, Insert File, New File, Execute SQL Query, Enable Preview Mode, Import Records, Save Records as Excel, Allow Toolbars, Send Event, Execute AppleScript, or all script steps to manage the database. FileMaker Go 12 has been discontinued and is no longer available on the iTunes App Store.
FileMaker Go 13 supports wiping gestures and barcode recognition for the first time when databases are created with FileMaker Pro 13. In addition, different keyboard layouts can be used for data entry. FileMaker Go 13 includes a number of new Starter Solutions that have been optimized for mobile use. The page control and pop-up keys introduced in FileMaker Pro 13 are also available in FileMaker Go 13. For data security, FileMaker Go 13 supports 256-bit AES encryption. The app requires at least iOS 7.1. FileMaker Go 13 has been discontinued and is no longer available on the iTunes App Store.
FileMaker Go 14 contains a new user interface, which was adapted for the new iOS-8 operating system and now includes a new start center, in which all previously used databases are clearly displayed and can be started by tip. In FileMaker Go 14, texts can be edited with styles, barcodes can be created and inserted into fields and the screen orientation can be controlled. FileMaker Go 14 also includes improved signature capture, touch keyboard activation, video and audio playback controls, and vertical scrollbar optimization in fields. FileMaker Go requires at least iOS 8.1.
FileMaker Go 15 was released with the FileMaker 15 platform and now supports touch ID recognition of fingerprints under iOS as well as 3D Touch. App Extensions let you take advantage of other apps on the iOS device to share FileMaker data. The new cloud-based file sharing allows you to send and receive files, documents and images via cloud storage services such as iCloud or other services. New iBeacon support lets you use location-based data in FileMaker Go. FileMaker Go requires at least iOS 9.3.
