ScriptMaster modules work in a similar way to custom functions in FileMaker: After entering a few details, these are processed and the module then outputs data. They appear in the FileMaker function list like custom functions - with the difference that ScriptMaster modules not only have access to functions from FileMaker, but can also access all functions of the Java programming language and its libraries. ScriptMaster modules therefore considerably extend the functional scope of FileMaker's own functions.
Installation of the ScriptMaster plugin
To install the ScriptMaster plugin in FileMaker, simply copy the plugin into the "Extensions" folder within the FileMaker directory. The manufacturer provides a sample file called "ScriptMaster.fp7", which contains a list of all modules that are supplied with the plugin as standard. All modules can be tried out directly in the sample file.
All modules can be registered in FileMaker as separate functions. As the source code is compiled in the process, a function registered as a Own function registered module faster than in development mode. In the example file supplied, simply click on the [Register Function] button, whereupon the code is compiled and the function is registered in FileMaker as a separate function. From then on, the module can simply be called up in the formula editor under "Own functions". The manufacturer 360Works also offers an advanced version at a price of 95 US dollars per year, which makes it possible to create your own plugin for FileMaker under Mac OS X or Windows from a ScriptMaster module.
The ScriptMaster plugin works with all FileMaker versions from 7 to 11 under Mac OS X and Windows. The plugin does not run on an Intel processor under the PPC emulation Rosetta. With the Enterprise version, which is subject to a charge, the plugin can also be used with Instant Web Publishing or with a FileMaker Server can be used. The plugin also runs smoothly in FileMaker Runtime-solutions.
