What is a drop-down list in FileMaker?
A drop-down list is understood to be FileMakerdatabases have a field formatting that can be used to open a drop-down menu with value defaults when the user selects the field. The default values can be taken from any value list. In contrast to the drop-down menu, a drop-down list can be used both to select values from a drop-down menu and to enter values manually in the field.
To add a drop-down list to a field, switch to layout mode in FileMaker and click on the desired field. In the inspector (View > Inspector), you can now select a field in the [Field] of the register [Data] to define all display settings for the selected field:

Control style (Form in which the field is to be displayed. By default, a field is displayed as an edit field. Other possible options: Drop-down list, drop-down menu, checkboxes, radio buttons, drop-down calendar)
With arrow to show or hide list (shows an arrow on the right-hand side of the field, with which the pop-up menu can be shown or hidden. For fade-in calendar: "With icon to show or hide calendar")
Allow editing of the value list (for static value lists, you can specify whether the user can edit the value list or not. If yes, a new item appears in the pop-up menu [Edit...]which can be used to open a dialog for editing the value list)
Automatically fill in via value list (automatically suggests suitable entries from the value list if the sequence of the first letters entered matches a value in the value list).
