What is an interface in relation to FileMaker?
One Interface is the generic term for the exchange of data between different systems. Most software programs have various interfaces. If you export data from FileMaker in a text format or in Excel format and open it again in another program, your exported data is, so to speak, an interface between FileMaker and the other program.
Interfaces can be implemented in a wide variety of ways. The most common interfaces allow data to be exported in different text formats and re-imported into the target system in a compatible format. Interfaces can also be integrated directly into the systems and then exchange data with each other via a direct connection. A prominent example of such an interface is an online store interface that can access the corresponding store system directly. An example of a very simple interface is a barcode: After you have scanned it, the corresponding key stored in the barcode appears in the database.
The gFM-Business software has numerous interfaces to third-party systems. First of all, each screen can be accessed by clicking on the [Export] in the toolbar to export all data associated with the screen in individual formats. During the export process, you have the option of specifying the fields and field sequence of the data to be exported yourself. You can choose to export the desired data in the following formats:
- Tab-delimited text (.txt)
- Comma-separated text (.csv)
- DBase (.dbf)
- Microsoft Word mail merge (.mer)
- HTML table (.htm)
