What is the Find mode in FileMaker?
Search mode is one of the four modes in FileMaker Browse mode, Search mode, Layout mode and Page view mode and is used to search for data records in a form or a list. The search mode can be called up using the menu command [View > Search mode] or by the script command Activate search mode [].
As soon as the search mode has been activated, a small magnifying glass symbol appears in each field to indicate the search mode. With the help of conditional formatting, it is also possible to additionally format objects when the user is in search mode. As soon as all search criteria have been entered, the search query can be started with the [Search result set] or by pressing the Enter key.
Adding new queries
In search mode, you can search for any field for which field input has been activated in search mode (see Inspector). If several fields are given a value in a search query, all the values entered must match in the search result (AND link). If data records are to be found for which one or more values OR one or more other values must match, you can use the menu command [Queries > Add new query] create a new query.
Example of a query
In this example, you want to call up all customers located in the zip code area 2xxxx and 8xxxx. Switch to search mode in your customer database and enter [2*] as the first criterion for the zip code. Now use the menu command [Queries > Add new query] and enter the second criterion [8*] for the zip code in the new query. After executing the search query, you will receive a list of all customers from zip code area 2 and 8.
